Good value. Hotel is not fancy, not upscale, in fact it is an ordinary old style hotel, but it is clean (interiors updated) and for the price it mets my needs- clean, affordable, no problems. I've stayed several times for one quick night passing though. Something nicer is way more money and something cheaper is yucky.

From my experience, its gorgeous scenery BUT the transportation is antiquated, resulting in higher travel expenses because I had to Uber everywhere.... Rent a car or have alternative transportation set up if you do decide to visit SLO.
Theres only two buses out there that run once an hour.
And one bus on the weekends.

Absolutely beautiful area.
Absolutely beautiful area. Very charming downtown with a wide variety of restaurants and shops. Beaches a short drive away. Highly recommend SLO Provisions for breakfast. El Esquina for a delicious meal. Farmers Market on Thursday nights give a wonderful sense of local products, foods and services. Very easy to walk around downtown. Morro Bay is an easy 20 min away. A beautiful drive. Morro Bay is a charming beach filled with local surfers, people walking their dogs or just hanging out to soak in the waves and surrounding beauty.

Close to downtown, shopping and restaurants to include the famous Madonna Inn. We were there to visit our student at CalPoly. Great amenities for our family. Always nice to have extra space in our room with the living room/dining area.

Very pleasant town with access to beautiful hikes.
Very pleasant town with access to beautiful hikes. Easy to get around. I loved how unique all the different buildings and houses were. Food was only decent, but not terrible. Good breweries, too! Very walkable. The highlight was going to the hot spring resort for their hour-use tubs.

Beautiful place to visit.
Beautiful place to visit. University town with a lovely walkable downtown. Lots of restaurants. Many people biking. Close to Pismo and Avila Beach, Morro Bay (and Rock) and the gorgeous central coast.Always love coming to SLO but it can be very pricey. This was a quick family visit so didn’t eat out much. Always find time for a latte at Scout coffee. If you are on a budget, check out hotel prices in advance prior to choosing dates. Inexpensive places jump to over $200 per night during certain weekends.

The breakfast was not very good at all.. the Schoolyard yesterday was kinda just microwaved food and it was nothing special for the prices they were charging. The best thing was the very comfortable beds and the curtains really made the room as dark as i like which was amazing! Avoid the Schoolyard restaurant at all costs.. it was not delicious at all. Would rather eat cardboard. Staff was nice. Beds were comfy. Very close to downtown SLO about 7$-8$ to uber there. 15 min drive to pismo and avila. Great located hotel.
We were on our way from San Francisco to Los Angeles and so we picked to stay at San Luis Obispo since it was midway through the journey. Sunbeam was the best-rated, value hotel that I could find. We liked that we were given a ground-floor room and we could park our car directly in front of it which made baggage handling way easier. The owner was very helpful in giving us recommendations, especially for dinner. We got to eat at the Hawaiian barbeque joint that he recommended.
You could make yourself some pancakes for breakfast. They were really delicious and you could always meet someone in the kitchen and the living room area. The hosts are really nice people and you feel really welcomed, safe and comfortable around the house. There are enough bathrooms and everything was really clean. The beach is only a few miles with a car anbd San Luis Obispo is a really clean and interesting city itself. Overall a really good experience.
The hotel is very nice and is in a great location if you are visiting Cal Poly. The breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly. The only problem was that we were right next to a common area bathroom on the fourth floor near the pool. At about 11 AM our room started to smell like a sewer. It was so bad we could not even go into the main bedroom.
Awesome hotel. Great pool area, didn't try the spa but it looked really nice. Everyone that works there is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and awesome. Had a balcony which was an added bonus. Right in the heart of downtown and walkable to everything.
The hotel was on the fringe of downtown. We walked easily to downtown for restaurants and shopping. I have a large truck so parking it near the room was a bit tight. We used the heater in the room which was more than adequate. Bath/shower was clean, water hot.
This is the best value-for-money place I've stayed in yet. Well-located in the most charming town, the Vagabond Inn was a gem. Clean, well-equipped rooms, good wifi, super easy check-in, and very short drive from downtown or to some great hiking spots.
Among hotels in this range, this one is pretty good. 60's or 70s construction, 2 story, exterior corridor, rooms renovated pretty recently, nothing fancy. Pretty clean, tile floors in the room (better than rugs IMHO).
Rooms were nice and big. Bed was suuuper comfy and breakfast was really good considering it was included. Pool area was really decent and free drinks in the evening made the hotel feel like a nice community
The hotel is in a commercial area far from the downtown or the beach . It is so expensive compared to the location . The breakfast was not really good for the price .
